At NeuYou Rehab, we use a range of treatment approaches to support the everyday needs of people living with a neurological condition. Nurturing the physical, mental and social elements of who we are is our mission in supporting you to live well, every day.
Regain. Retain. Live Well
At NeuYou Rehab, we use a range of exercise and movement approaches to target your specific symptoms. We aim to improve strength, range of movement and endurance, whilst reducing pain and stiffness, to improve how you carry out everyday functional tasks. Our overall goal is always to maximise your independence and improve the quality of your life.
Applying the 4-Quadrant Stability Model to all movement, we are able to provide you with lasting connections, and the skills in how to apply these to all exercises and functional movements you do everyday.
Specific focuses we support you with include:
Symptoms related to your diagnosis can be ‘silent’ – either to you, or to others around you. Their impact, however, can be substantial and can have a domino effect within your life. This can make identifying and addressing the problem extremely hard to achieve alone.
Living well with your neurological condition requires the time and skill to identify the issues, and then learn how to manage your symptoms better to enable you to keep doing the things you love to do.
Whatever your symptoms – fatigue, freezing of gait, anxiety, difficulties sleeping well, sadness related to your diagnosis, poor memory – we can provide the advice, education and effective rehabilitation strategies to help you to manage these issues and keep in control of your everyday life.
“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become”
~Carl Gustav Jung
As part of the aim to enhance your independence and functional skills, we may recommend assistive technology, equipment and aids to help you achieve your goals.
We aim to get the balance right between maintaining as much physical involvement as possible and recommending the assistive technologies to support you in your everyday tasks – keeping you and anyone that supports you as safe as possible.
We will liaise with suppliers, complete trials where necessary and provide training in all equipment we recommend to ensure it’s the best fit for you and ensure you feel confident and safe in using it.
Assistive technology can range from grab rails, small kitchen and bathroom aids, transfer and mobility aids to specialist beds and seating. Whatever need you have, we will support you in finding the best solution.
Exercise is medicine – Movement is therapy
As part of our focus on improving your physical health and wellness, we offer a range of exercise and movement approaches to support you in feeling and moving well, every day.
We adapt all exercises to suit your individual need on the day. We apply the 4-Quadrant Stability Model and Pilates principles to ensure all movements have a brain-based approach to maximise long-term outcomes. We utilise multiple sensory inputs, vestibular challenges and cerebellum activity to ensure your whole system is stimulated, challenged and supported to find your best movements and put YOU back in the driving seat.
We always work to reduce your spasticity, improve your movement flow, and never work to points of pain or into gripping patterns.
Whether in a 1:1 session or a group, you will receive individual guidance to maximise your outcomes.
Functional recovery is not just for the body. When there has been damage or injury to the brain, there can be many areas of our thinking, or cognition, that need retraining – much like we would for the arm or leg.
Areas of cognitive rehabilitation that we might need to address include memory, attention, information processing, executive function, cognitive flexibility and managing cognitive fatigue. Training will target the impairment, providing the strategies to better manage your days and work towards your goals. Cognitive occupational therapy activities include:
We are what we eat.
With increasing clarity of the role food and nutrition play in our physical and mental wellbeing, we will work with you to identify digestive and nutritional issues related to your neurological condition.
We will support you in making positive nutritional change to promote improved general wellbeing, sleep, stress management and to better manage the specific symptoms you experience every day.
Working closely with nutritionists, dieticians and naturopaths who have a focus on neurological conditions, we will guide you in supportive nutrition principles to improve your overall cellular function as part of the foundational pillars of your health.
Living well with your condition by nurturing the physical, emotional and social elements of who you are is our mission at NeuYou Rehab.
We address emotional wellbeing as part of our focus on the foundational pillars of your health and how these impact other aspects of your health and wellness, such as your physical self, your motivation, what you eat, exercise levels, how you interact with the world around you and how you participate in your chosen roles and activities.
We will work with you to ensure your sleep and nutrition are optimised, support you to manage any stress, guide you in attending to your moods, and always work to ensure you feel supported and encouraged to live with positivity and self-control.
Should you need more in-depth or specialist guidance, we will support you in finding a psychologist or clinician with the skills you need.
Living with a neurological condition can require a range of supports and services to enable you to continue living with maximum independence, self-efficacy, and quality of life.
At NeuYou Rehab, we have experience in providing case management to support you in establishing goals, navigating services, identifying support needs, and in monitoring and guiding your progress over time.
Working solely in neurological rehabilitation and support, our therapists are adept at navigating the systems and supports you will encounter. We can provide you with a single point of contact and answer your questions and concerns as they arise to ensure you feel supported, informed and in control of your journey.
